In the year 2019, thirty-one years after World War III, the authority of Neo-Tokyo is waging a constant battle against Underground rebels. Caught in the middle is a motorcycle gang whose aim is just to make trouble. The gang leader Kaneda Shoutarou gets involved in more ways than one when an experimental psychic child escapes and results in gang member Shima Tetsuo’s capture and subsequent experimentation. Tetsuo the “bitter runt” of the pack now has the power of Akira and soon escapes as soon as everyone realises that his power can result in the total destruction of Neo-Tokyo.

A story of future Earth – A warning for mankind: In the future, our planet will be transformed into a strange new world where human life struggles on an Earth without rain or oceans – only vast, parched deserts.
Two youths fight for survival on our hostile planet and find hope. The sea, the sky and the land had been completely polluted by mankind when mysterious objects fall from the heavens. These titanic vessels smash into the planet and suck up the air, water, and most living creatures into their womb, stealing away the very essence of Earth’s nature.
The few remaining inhabitants struggle for survival against a hostile environment and an oppressive ruling race known as the Rodo. One young, hot-blooded human named Ran, fights against the Rodo and a world in which rain is only a legend. New-Port City has a problem with crime, and in order to combat this, the mayor orders the creation of a new police unit: THE TANK POLICE! Trouble ensues when the feisty Leona is transferred in from the motorcycle-division, and has a little problem getting used to the tanks (i.e.: how to drive them without demolishing buildings.), and accidentally destroys the personal tank of the units commander, Lt. Britain. Threatened with re-assignment to chilled-welfare, Leona builds, with the help of Al and the Chaplain, a new smaller tank out of spare parts. The new tank, christened Bonaparte by Leona, is finished just in time to stop Crime-Lord Buaku and his henchwomen, Annapuna and Unipima (aka, the Cat Sisters), from stealing urine from people who are un-effected by the poison cloud that hangs over the entire planet. Finally accepted into the Tank Police, Leona ends up causing as much, if not more, trouble then the others ever did.

The plot for Tenshi no Tamago is not something that can easily be related in words. The film is largely about the presentation more than action, and understatement instead of open revelation. Existentialism abounds, heightened by the moody artwork and the dialogue, which asks more questions than it answers. Bear in mind, however, that the conflict in the plotline primarily occurs in the audience’s mind, not in any sequence of actions in the film, spurred by speculation arising from one jarring impression after another. There are only two primary characters in Tenshi no Tamago: a young girl who bears an egg and a man who holds a strange cross. The audience is left to speculate as to the identities and true personalities of these two images which act in this disturbing world. Indeed, much of their dialogue involves the question “dare ka” (who are you). For such an existential film, however, this is perfect, as any open declaration of their thoughts, instead of such questions and mysterious actions, would ruin the mystery of the film.
